Relieving stress by abdominal massage, is what is the third lesson in the stress-free challenge all about.
This lesson includes a very effective massage that you can easily give – even without any massage knowledge – to a friend, colleague, family member to relieve stress. But again, if you have time we recommend to do the lesson 1, then 2 and then the 3rd lesson of today, combining them all, so you are creating a full massage protocol. Because the massage lessons of the 5 days together are a full massage protocol.

As you now might know the massage we teach in lesson 3 is called Nuad Thai Massage on the mat, also known as traditional Thai (yoga) massage.
And after massaging the feet and the legs in the previous lesson, today we teach you massage of the abdomen. Massaging the abdomen is very good to attack stress, anxiety, depression and more.
Relieve stress by abdomen massage
Giving a massage on the abdomen acts as a reset in the body from stressed to relaxed: The abdomen contains a very high number of neuron cells, to help in the digestion process.
A neuron is a cell of the nerve system. We have certain neurotransmitters and hormones – like serotonin – that start as being a neurotransmitter in the brain, but when it reaches the area of the abdomen, it converts into a hormone, to help with digestion process.
So now we know that giving a massage on the abdomen is very important when someone is stressed.
But also massaging the area of the chest if very effective for people with stress. Because many people with stress have a lot of problems in the area of the chest.
Stress has a big impact on the way we breath. Someone with stress breaths shorter and faster. This movement impacts on the fascias of the muscles in the area of the chest and other surrounding fascias like the area of the ribs.
The fast and shallow breathing causes fascia to stretch less. The fascia becomes sticky and can press on nerve tissue. And then you actually feel pain in the chest.
Many people with chronic stress suffer from pain in the chest. When you have that, we advice you to go to a doctor to be sure it is not your heart. However, most of the time it is just how we described: fascia adhesions pressing on the nerves in the area of the chest so you feel pain.
The solution: Break the sticky fascia by massage. Because the massage we teach you breaks the unhealthy sticky fascia by acupressure, stretching, heat and movement so it will no longer press the nerve. Your pain will be gone plus your circulation can flow better again because the fascia is no longer blocking.
During these three lessons of the stress-free challenge we have been working on acupressure, less on stretches. However, during our full (online) program, called Nuad Thai Massage Program. We teach not only acupressure, but also great stretches. Moreover we teach the full spectrum of Nuad Thai Massage: as performed on the mat (also called Thai Yoga Massage), the chair, on the table and foot reflexology, plus deep tissue (sports) massage.
But for now, we keep it simple: We teach you in lesson 3 an easy and effective abdomen massage. And please note: We advice you to wait at least 20 minutes after eating, before you massage the belly.
