The second lesson of the stress-free challenge is all about giving acupressure and stretch massage on the legs.

During a Nuad Thai Massage treatment, we usually massage the legs after massaging the feet. So if you have more time, feel free to repeat lesson 1 (massage on the feet) and add lesson 2 (massage on the legs).

The massage we teach in lesson 2 is called Nuad Thai Massage on the mat, also known as traditional Thai (yoga) massage.

First and only UN-recognized massage technique

Nuad Thai – also called Thai yoga massage – is the only massage technique in the world recognized by Unesco as world heritage.

Used in hospitals

In Asia, and Thailand in particular, massage is part of regular medicine (it is used in hospitals) and a daily routing with enormous health results. In the west, the benefits of massage are also becoming more and more familiar.

And during our full (online) program, called Nuad Thai Massage Program. Not only do we teach acupressure (as we teach in this stress-free challenge), but also great stretches. Plus the full program teaches you the full spectrum of Nuad Thai Massage: Performed on the mat (also called Thai Yoga Massage), the chair, on the table and foot reflexology, plus deep tissue (sports) massage.

But for now, we keep it simple: We teach you in lesson 2 some easy massage steps on the legs. During this massage protocol we teach you how to follow the directions with palm pressing and acupressure of specific lines.

Meridian or Sen Line

This specific line also called a meridian, or Sen line is a direction on the body where people have been pressing for centuries to see what happens when there is stimulation along a certain direction. There are over 72,000 meridians in our body. In Traditional Thai medicine we use the major 10 lines, the major 10 directions along the body.

Stress relief by leg massage

Working on the legs is very powerful to fight against problems that are caused by stress. These are problems located on the fascia related to lack of elasticity. The fascia is the tissue that covers every structure of our body, including the muscles. A healthy fascia is flexible and smooth.

Tensions on fascia cause problems on the sarcomeres. Sarcomeres are the contractile unit of a muscle fiber. Problems of the contractile unit of the muscle fiber cause problems of movement.

By lack of movement, repetitive movement, injury, trauma or by stress, your fascia can become sticky and hard. We call that fascia adhesions (or trigger points, unhealthy fascia. These fascia adhesions can press on the nerve. And then you feel pain. A great way to break the sticky fascia is with acupressure (heating), stretching and movement. And this is exactly what we do during Nuad Thai Massage, and this massage protocol.

In today’s lesson we will be showing stretches of the legs. If you are a beginner in Thai yoga massage this might look difficult. Don’t worry, you can press the pause button whenever you wish.
