How to end a stiff neck Within minutes

If you ever had a stiff neck, you probably know the feeling of agony when you move.

Every small movement can give you a super sharp pain.

Maybe you even get a headache.

Or you might not be able to turn your head.

Some of us put a scarf around their neck, others take a painkiller and some even have to call in sick.

I (Nicole) hear you. I know the feeling. And I used to be the one walking like a robot for a couple of days until my stiff neck was gone.

But not anymore.

I now know how to end a stiff neck within minutes.

It is very easy, even a child can do it.

Let me explain.

This happened a while ago and I decided to write it down to share,
so everyone can put an end to stiff necks easily, without suffering from pain for days.

So this is what happened:

I woke up early that morning with a very stiff neck, because I slept with my neck in an awkward position.

If you ever had this feeling, you know how annoying that is, right?

I was not able to move my neck. Every little movement resulted in super sharp pain in my neck and shoulder. Feeling like an electric shock, going all the way down my arm to my fingers. I also got a headache from it as well. So yes, super annoying!

Despite trying various pillows, I still wake up with a stiff neck, a couple of times a year, can’t really predict it.

I used to take painkillers for it and covered my neck in a big scarf waiting for several days until the pain was gone and I was able to move my neck again.

This was before I knew massage.

Yes, I know I am very lucky having a husband that is able to give me massage when needed.

So, whenever I have a stiff neck I just ask Manel to massage me and it is gone within 5 minutes.

It is a very easy massage, but still every time it amazes me to see the results so quickly.

Going from super sharp pains, to no pain at all in just a couple of minutes.

However….

Manel was still asleep that morning. So I thought to ask our kids to help me.

Wow…

It helped a lot. I instructed her to press a bit more below and as well on my trapezius muscle – between neck, upper part of the spine and scapula.

I then was able to move my head without severe pain.

However, I still felt some pain, thinking it came from the knots in my upper back.

So I asked our son Alex (at the age of 4 at that time) to walk over my legs, then the back, next to my spine, to improve my blood circulation.

Results … pain gone and proud kids!

This is our son Alex walking over my legs. Our daughter took the picture.

Imagine how I was wearing a scarf for some days and taking painkillers to now just instructing my young schoolkids to release the same pain in some minutes.

Crazy

This is crazy right?

So therefore I thought to write this down, to let you know if you ever have a stiff neck and you know massage, you can just instruct anyone to relieve your pain.

It is that easy, once you have massage knowledge so you know where the other should press.

Disclaimer

However, just a disclaimer: be sure that the stiff neck is due to muscle strain.

If the pain is due to cervical spine disorders, an infection or anything else apart from muscle strain, please see a doctor first!

Plus, please be sure what you are doing and always be safe knowing the contra-indications of massage.

Try This

Otherwise, just instruct someone to:

1.

Press besides cervical number 7 (C7)

Best is to let your client sit cross legged on the floor. Then cup with your right hand the right shoulder as on the picture.

Be sure that you are next to the C7. The drawing is a drawing of the Nuad Thai Massage Level 1 (Thai Yoga Massage) book. If you enrolled to the course you know that we give you videos as well, so you can see it much more clear than here.

On the drawing here you can see that it is the biggest looking cervicle. It is the cervicle that you see popping up when you look down.

Then place your elbow on the right side of C7 with the direction to press down to the floor. Make sure you don’t touch on the cervicle. We never press on bones. And make sure you don’t touch the head of your client, since this might be very sensitive while having a stiff neck. Ask your client to breath in. Hold the breath for a second. Ask your client to breath out and while breathing out, now press with your elbow slowly down towards the floor and hold for some seconds.

Repeat on the other (left) side.

2.

Massage trapezius muscle

Press with your hand palms on both sides of the neck at the same time slowly down towards the floor.

  • First press on point 1 next to the neck.
  • Then point 2 in the middle between shoulder and neck.
  • Then point 3 just before the shoulder joint.

We never press on bones.

If you are more experienced you can now repeat the proceedings with your thumb. So you can press on the three points on the trapezius muscle with thumb press. Do this slow and deep. Be sure the client stays seated with a straight back. If you client does not have a straight back, let him/her sit on a block or cushion.

3.

Press besides the cervical and thoracic spine

If your client can, let him/her look down with the head (as on the picture).

Interlace your hands and press with the thumbs on the points written at B. These are 3 points on either side of the cervicals on the neck.

Be sure to not press too far out on the sides on the neck (we never press on the CSM) and to not press on the cervical itself.

You need to press on the muscle next to the cervicals. The pressure is inwards. Like you want to crack a nut in between your thumbs, without sliding on the skin of the neck.

Make sure you are not leaning on the head with the rest of your fingers.

Press on the same place you would pick up a rabbit.

  • Start at point 1 next to C7.
  • Then point 2 in the middle of the neck
  • Then point 3 below the skull.

So try the above when you have a stiff neck and you are pain-free in just a couple of minutes.

This sounds amazing, right?!

I just had to let you know, because my wish for you is that you don’t need to suffer from a stiff neck.

That you are able to end a stiff neck within minutes!

Why feel like this?

If you can feel like this!

In just a couple of minutes… without taking painkillers.

And did you know, a massage works the same as a painkiller, without any side effects?

Wishing you a neck free life!

Nicole (& Manel too of course)
