First time?
Please read below important information.
What to bring
Hygiene is crucial since we'll be massaging each other over clothes. Please arrive clean!
Please remember to bring:
𧦠Clean socks,
π©³ Long sports trousers (comfortable clothes for ease of movement),
π A long-sleeved shirt (you might feel a bit chilly during the massage),
π Wear a T-shirt underneath (you might get warmer while giving a massage),
π§ A bottle of water (you can enjoy this after the class; we don't have a break during class).
Please note that we have one shared changing room, but no lockers.
Arrive 20 minutes prior to class
Please arrive on time.
The door opens 20 minutes before the class starts.
Your place is reserved until 5 minutes before the class begins.
Once the class has started, late entry is not possible out of respect for fellow participants.
Are you new to ITM Thai Hand Amsterdam?
Be sure to arrive at least 20 minutes early for registration and a brief introduction by the teacher.
Practice in silence
We practice in total silence throughout the entire class to enhance the meditation experience:
π€« Please refrain from talking during the full 60 minutes of class.
π
For first-timers, it might be challenging not to giggle or communicate aloud.
π§ββοΈ It takes some practice, but please respect your fellow participants and try not to judge yourself or others; focus on total meditation.
π Even when we switch (from giving massage to receiving massage), please do so in total silence to avoid disturbing the meditation of the rest of the class.
π§ To avoid needing to use the toilets during class, try not to drink anything during class and limit your intake before class.
π΅ Put your phone on silent mode or turn it off during class.
Only AFTER class, you can:
πββοΈ Ask questions
π£οΈ Give feedback
π½ Use the toilets
Joining alone
Don't worry if you are not coming with a massage partner.
Most participants come alone, so we can introduce you to another participant.
There's no need to be shy because you will be surrounded by like-minded people who share your interest in improving their health and that of others through massage.
Can anyone join
Thai Hand Massage Class is a Thai yoga massage class in which you receive a 30-minute massage and give a 30-minute massage under the guidance of the teacher.
Since we move as a group, we cannot adjust the massage to individual needs.
If you have an injury or medical condition, we advise you to receive a massage treatment first. This way, you will be treated by a certified massage therapist who can adjust the massage to your individual needs.
Are you pregnant
π Congratulations on your pregnancy!
π€° If you wish to have a massage during your pregnancy, your best option is to visit a therapist specialized in pregnancy massage.
π« Thai Hand Massage Class is not suitable for pregnant women because we operate as a group, and we cannot tailor the massage to individual needs.
π Therefore, we advise you to seek out alternative options and return to us after delivery.
π€± As a new mother, we're confident that you'll enjoy our Thai Hand Massage Class, and it's a great idea for mothers of young children to treat themselves to a massage class to stay fit and healthy.
πΌ In the meantime, cherish your pregnancy, and we wish you all the best with your upcoming newborn!
Sitting on your knees
For Thai Hand Massage Class, it is important that you are able to sit on your knees. If you have a knee injury, we advise you to book a Massage Treatment to address your knee problem before participating in the Thai Hand Massage Class.
What to expect
Arrival and Intake:
π Please arrive 20 minutes early if it's your first time to complete registration.
π Upon arrival at ITM Thai Hand Amsterdam, you'll be asked to fill out an intake form to note any relevant medical history, injuries, or physical conditions.
Intake:
π£οΈ Our teacher will have a brief discussion with you about your medical conditions. Together, you can decide if any adjustments are needed.
π§ββοΈ Please keep in mind that during the class, you should be able to sit on your knees comfortably. Since we practice as a group, if you have injuries, we recommend booking a massage treatment with a certified massage therapist, rather than participating in Thai Hand Massage Class.
Change of Clothes:
π In the dressing room, you can change into the appropriate attire for the Thai Hand Massage Class.
During the Thai Hand Massage Class:
π You'll experience a full-body massage starting from your feet, then moving to your legs, back, arms, shoulders, and head. The massage is done over your clothes.
π To gain the most from the class, we encourage you to close your eyes and fully relax when receiving the massage. Your massage partner will adjust the pressure to your preference while following the teacher's guidance.
π§ββοΈ When it's your turn to give a massage, simply watch the teacher and follow along. Try to enter a meditative state, as we practice as a harmonious group during Thai Hand Massage Class. For more detailed instruction, we offer separate Nuad Thai Massage programs, focusing on positions, bodyweight usage, contraindications, and indications, with time for questions. Thai Hand Massage Class emphasizes the massage experience itself rather than professional massage training.
After the Thai Hand Massage Class:
π΄ After the class, you may feel as though you've had a restful night's sleepβthis is quite common.
πͺ If it's your first class, you might experience some muscle soreness, which is perfectly normal. With continued practice, it becomes easier.
π Remember that the benefits of massage tend to accumulate over time. This first class can be the pivotal step in your wellness journey, leading you to a healthier, happier, and stress-free life. You'll likely feel better with each additional Thai Hand Massage Class you attend.
